A Bangladeshi national attempting to enter India illegally was intercepted and returned by Assam Police, as reported by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday. The incident occurred along the Karimganj international border, where security has been intensified to prevent unauthorized infiltration.
The Chief Minister praised the state police, tweeting that Md. Mozibur Rahman, the apprehended Bangladeshi national, was quickly handed back to Bangladesh by alert officers. This marks part of an ongoing effort to monitor and protect the border, with around 140 infiltrators already pushed back. Vigilance has increased in light of regional instability.
Sarma had previously noted that illegal immigrants often try to use Assam as a corridor to reach southern Indian cities for work in the textile sector. However, the Director General of Police, GP Singh, assured that while security remains tight, Indian passport holders would be granted entry amidst the turmoil.
