Delhi's Chief Minister, Atishi, announced on Saturday the reinstatement of 10,000 Civil Defence Volunteers (CDVs) as part of a renewed effort to enforce anti-pollution measures. These volunteers, who were removed from bus marshal roles last year, will make their return next week for a four-month assignment.
The Delhi government has approved this move, and call out notices will be issued starting Monday. CDVs are expected to begin registration at their respective district magistrate offices on Tuesday and Wednesday, with deployment in pollution management duties soon after, Atishi stated in a press briefing.
Initially deployed to ensure women's safety in 2018, the CDVs' roles were questioned by finance and revenue departments, leading to their removal in November 2023. However, Minister Atishi claims the current reinstatement has been achieved through a concerted effort led by AAP leaders and the initiative to regularize CDVs is underway.
