Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah assured farmers in Vijayapura district that they would not be evicted from lands mistakenly tagged as Waqf properties. The recent concerns were addressed during a meeting, where Siddaramaiah stated that any notices issued would be retracted.
Following tensions escalated by similar notices in adjacent districts, Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda was tasked with reviewing the situation. The issue, reportedly stemming from an error in a gazette notification, had marked 1,200 acres incorrectly, with only 11 actually being Waqf property. Minister M B Patil pledged to form a task force to resolve the matter.
The BJP, accused of spreading misinformation and divisive politics, was criticized by Congress. BJP leaders condemned the ruling party of minority appeasement, pledging legal assistance to affected farmers. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi and JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy demanded clarity on Waqf property dealings, calling for accountability.
