In a tragic turn of events, five workers lost their lives and two sustained injuries on Tuesday when unidentified gunmen opened fire at a dam construction site in Pakistan's Balochistan province, officials confirmed.
According to Shahid Rind, a spokesperson for the Balochistan government, the militants targeted both security officials and workers engaged in maintenance work at the Paroom area dam site in Panjgur district. While confirming the casualties, Rind did not specify whether security personnel were among the dead.
Local police have initiated a search operation to apprehend the attackers. Although no group has claimed responsibility, the attack follows a pattern of assaults by Baloch nationalist groups. Balochistan's Chief Minister, Mir Sarfraz Bugti, condemned the act, labeling it an 'unforgivable crime' aimed at halting regional progress, and pledged that those responsible would face justice.
