Online Banking Scam Hits Bank Employee

A woman bank employee was tricked out of Rs 1.60 lakh by a fraudster posing as a co-worker. The scam involved convincing her to use internet banking to avoid a credit card fee, leading to unauthorized transactions. Authorities are investigating under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

A woman employed at a prominent bank fell victim to a scam, losing Rs 1.60 lakh to a fraudster impersonating a fellow bank staff member, a police official reported on Monday.

The perpetrator contacted Vallari Marne, advising her to use internet banking allegedly to prevent a Rs 2000 yearly fee on her credit card, according to the official.

After following the given instructions, Marne discovered two OTPs were used to illicitly transfer Rs 1.6 lakh from her account through separate transactions. A complaint led to a case being filed against an unidentified individual under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, confirmed a BKC police station official.
