German authorities announced the arrest of a Libyan national on Sunday, suspecting him of plotting an attack on the Israeli Embassy in Berlin. The individual, identified as Omar A., was captured in Bernau by police officials.
The Federal Prosecutor's Office revealed that the suspect was allegedly planning a firearms assault on the embassy, having communicated with an Islamic State member online. Security personnel also searched another individual's home, although they remain a witness, not a suspect.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser praised the swift action of German security services in protecting Jewish and Israeli establishments. Meanwhile, Justice Minister Marco Buschmann highlighted the persistent threat of Islamist terrorism in the country.
