Justice Sought: Dalit Man's Fight Against Caste-Based Assault

A shocking incident involving caste-based violence emerged after Abhishek Gautam, a 24-year-old Dalit man, reported being brutally assaulted by seven individuals for drinking water from a handpump near a temple.
Despite facing threats to his life and family, Gautam filed a complaint, which initially led to no action from the police. Undeterred, he took the matter to a special court, resulting in an order for case registration against the accused under relevant legal provisions.
The case highlights ongoing caste discrimination, with the accused yet to be apprehended. Superintendent of Police Meenakshi Katyayan has assigned the investigation to Circle Officer Prabhat Rai as ordered by the court.
