Delhi High Court Demands Accountability After Tragic Incident at Kalkaji Temple

In the wake of a 17-year-old boy's death from an uncovered wire at the Kalkaji Temple during Navratri, Delhi High Court has requested comprehensive reports from Mahant Surendra Nath and Delhi Police. The ongoing absence of a court-appointed administrator raises concerns as redevelopment work continues.

In light of the recent fatality involving a 17-year-old boy caused by an uncovered wire at Delhi's Kalkaji Temple during Navratri festivities, Justice Prathiba M. Singh has underscored the urgency for stringent management measures. A status report has been demanded from Mahant Surendra Nath, who oversees the temple's activities, as well as from the Delhi Police.

Citing a similar tragedy last year, Justice Singh lamented the recurrence of safety oversights and emphasized the need for improved crowd management protocols. Additionally, concerns were raised over unpaid dues to a previously court-appointed administrator, whose role remains crucial amid ongoing redevelopment efforts without current oversight.

The High Court has given a directive for Mahant Surendra Nath, identified as the temple's baridar, to present a detailed account of the current management strategies. Parallelly, the police have been tasked with submitting their incident report. As the court anticipates the standing counsel's status report, further deliberations are scheduled for the forthcoming Monday hearing.
