The Hindu community in Pakistan's Southern Sindh province is living in fear due to threats from influential individuals following a recent blasphemy incident, claims a prominent Hindu leader.

Shiva Kucchi, leader of the Pakistan Darawar Ittehad, notes that since the Umerkot blasphemy incident, certain influential figures have openly threatened the Hindu community.

In response, police have yet to make any arrests, heightening concerns among the community.

The Umerkot incident last month underscored the significant influence of some Muslim clerics and religious leaders in targeting Hindu community members and their sympathizers.

Dr. Shahnawaz Kunbhar from Umerkot was killed by police in an encounter, and his body was desecrated by an angry mob. He had denied charges of blasphemy via a social media video prior to his death in Mirpurkhas.

Hindus attempted to assist Kunbhar's family during the burial, leading to an attack by an enraged mob.

Although some community members prevented the complete burning of the body, threats from religious groups ensued against those who helped.

Despite lodging complaints, police inaction continues, as confirmed by community leader Shiva.

Umerkot police officer Shakoor Rasheed acknowledged receiving complaints but cited insufficient evidence, while assuring that steps are being taken to ensure justice in Dr. Kunbhar's case.
