China Eyes New Era in Japan Relations

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for a fresh chapter in Sino-Japanese relations, following a conversation with his new Japanese counterpart, Takeshi Iwaya. The dialogue comes as a signal for steady improvement in bilateral ties, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Wang acknowledged Japan's 'positive signals' towards developing a stronger partnership and highlighted Beijing's interest in fostering a 'new atmosphere' with Japan's freshly constituted cabinet. He stressed the importance of maintaining peace and preventing any external forces from fomenting regional discord.
Despite recent tensions involving territorial disputes and violence against Japanese nationals, China insists on safeguarding the safety of all foreigners. Wang remains hopeful for an objective, rational, and amicable understanding of China by Japan moving forward.
