Police have arrested three people from Mumbai, including a woman, for allegedly trafficking a man from Chhattisgarh's Durg district into cyber slavery in Laos, a Southeast Asian nation. The trio also allegedly swindled Rs 2 lakh from him under the pretense of offering a computer operator's job.
Sajah Sheikh, Rafi Khan alias Rafiq Khan, and the third suspect, all Mumbai residents, were apprehended by Chhattisgarh police and brought to Durg following a complaint from a victim of online fraud. The Bhilai resident was promised employment abroad but subjected to cyber slavery instead.
The investigation revealed that Sheikh and his female accomplice lured victims with job ads for Southeast Asia, creating a fake business, VS Enterprises Manpower Consultancy Pvt Ltd, to fleece them. Further investigations are underway to assist those trapped in cyber slavery in Laos and Thailand, with Interpol's help.
