Interpol Warrants Escalate Venezuela-Argentina Diplomatic Row
Venezuela's attorney general Tarek Saab asked Interpol for an arrest warrant against Argentine President Javier Millei, escalating tensions between the two nations. Argentina, on the other hand, requested the arrest of Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro over alleged human rights violations. The conflict began with the seizure of a Venezuelan airplane in Buenos Aires in June 2022.
In a dramatic escalation of tensions between Venezuela and Argentina, Venezuela's attorney general Tarek Saab announced on Tuesday that he has requested an Interpol arrest warrant for Argentine President Javier Millei.
The diplomatic row shows no signs of abating, as Argentina's federal justice body late on Monday called for the arrest of Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro, alleging human rights violations. This followed the demands from an Argentine advocacy group.
The roots of this conflict trace back to June 2022, when a Venezuelan airplane was seized in Buenos Aires, leading to a series of accusations from Venezuela against Millei, including charges of robbery.
