Hamas and Fatah: Another Step Towards Palestinian Unity
Hamas and Fatah representatives prepare for unity talks in Cairo. Discussions will focus on Israeli actions in Gaza and post-war administration. Previous attempts at unity, including talks in July, yielded little progress. Both factions reject Israeli influence on Palestinian affairs, while Israel refuses Hamas’ role in Gaza’s administration.

Hamas and Fatah, the two main Palestinian political factions, are set to continue their unity talks in Cairo this Wednesday, marking a significant attempt to bridge internal divisions. A Hamas official confirmed the meeting, stating that their delegation arrived in Cairo on Tuesday, led by Khalil Al-Hayya, who is known for his role as Hamas' chief negotiator.
According to Taher Al-Nono, who serves as the media adviser to the Hamas political leader, the discussions will center around the ongoing Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip and the broader challenges facing the Palestinian cause. Notably, Fatah has not yet commented on the agenda of the meeting.
This meeting follows previous talks held in Beijing in July, where both factions agreed on potential steps toward forming a unity government. However, historical talks have often ended without concrete progress, especially regarding the administration of Gaza post-conflict, a contentious issue both factions agree should remain an internal matter, rejecting Israeli involvement.
