In Berinag, an inquiry has been initiated following a protest by a Hindu outfit demanding the removal of an allegedly illegal mosque operating inside a house. Members of the Rashtriya Sewa Sangathan gathered at the SDM's office, sparking a significant local controversy.
The Hindu group claims that an abandoned house has been unlawfully transformed into a mosque to offer Namaz, prompting the protest on October 6. The district authorities have responded by promising an investigation based on a memorandum from the organization.
The matter has deepened as a case under section 196/2 of BNS has been filed against the Hindu group for promoting religious enmity after they shared footage of the mosque on social media. Locals report the house has been used for Namaz by about 100 Muslim families for 25 years.
