Woman Arrested for Abandonment of Newborn in Thane

In a shocking incident in Thane city, Maharashtra, police have detained a 24-year-old woman accused of abandoning her infant niece. The newborn was discovered by pedestrians on a roadside in Bhaskar Nagar, prompting immediate police intervention.
Upon receiving the alert at approximately 6:15 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement swiftly reached the scene to secure the newborn. Despite the initial lack of information regarding the child's parents, officers diligently pursued various leads and scrutinized CCTV footage from the area.
Within six hours, technical and intelligence efforts led authorities to the child's aunt, who confessed to the act during interrogation. The newborn's mother is currently being treated at a local civic hospital. The aunt now faces charges under sections 91 and 93 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for her alleged involvement.
