The National Green Tribunal has levied a symbolic fine of one rupee on the Surveyor General for failing to comply with its directives.

The tribunal was addressing a case concerning the alleged felling of over 1 lakh trees and shrubs across three forest divisions in Uttar Pradesh for a road project.

The bench, led by NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava, noted the Surveyor General's absence and lack of compliance, stating that strict action was considered but not taken, expecting regard for tribunal orders.
