National Green Tribunal Seeks Reply on South Delhi Cultural Event Controversy

The National Green Tribunal has requested responses from the Centre and other parties concerning the South Delhi Municipal Corporation's permission to host cultural events in a park. The plea cites potential environmental damage and calls for immediate restriction on such activities in the designated green space.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has issued notices to the Centre and other relevant authorities concerning the South Delhi Municipal Corporation's decision to permit cultural events in Aya Nagar's Baba Mangal Das Park. The tribunal is responding to a plea highlighting possible environmental impact issues.

The plea indicates that residents had previously requested the development of a park on undeveloped land, which the Municipal Corporation executed, leaving a section open for activities. On September 23, a contractor began setting up for a 12-day cultural event, prompting concerns about environmental damage.

The bench, comprising Justice Arun Kumar Tyagi and expert member A Senthil Vel, noted potential ecological harm and directed respondents to file a reply. The respondents include the Centre, Delhi government, and South Delhi Municipal Corporation.
