A five-year-old girl who went missing in Bhopal was discovered dead in a water tank of a locked house on Thursday, police reported.

Outraged locals responded by blocking a road and surrounding the Shahjahanabad police station, calling for the death penalty for those responsible.

Police detained two individuals in connection with the case. The girl disappeared from her family's building on Tuesday, leading to a search involving 100 police officers, drones, and divers.

The girl was ultimately found dead in another flat within the same building. Her body is now under examination at a hospital.

Locals, frustrated with the police's response to prior requests to search the locked flat, initiated a road blockade. Although they later cleared the road, they continued their protest outside the police station.

Authorities, including local MLA Atif Arif Aqueel, visited the scene, but official details remain scarce. Efforts to reach senior officials, including Bhopal Commissioner of Police HC Mishra, were unsuccessful.
