The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Wednesday detained Rajesh Kumar, principal of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Haridwar, for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a contractual worker.

The CBI had registered a case against Kumar following allegations that he was demanding Rs 10,000 per month from various contractual workers at the school to ensure their continued employment. These workers included guards, sweepers, and gardeners.

The accused principal had demanded Rs 80,000 in bribes for eight workers over ten months, but had later agreed to reduce the amount to Rs 50,000-60,000 after negotiations. The CBI set up a trap and caught Kumar red-handed while accepting a part payment of Rs 30,000. Subsequent searches of Kumar's residence and office led to the discovery of incriminating documents.
