A junior engineer with the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) in Maharashtra has been suspended following allegations of bribery. A video of the event surfaced on social media, confirming the illicit transaction, according to a civic official.
The suspension order issued by KDMC commissioner Dr Indu Rani Jakhar on Tuesday identified the accused as Sanjay Somwanshi, a lab assistant also acting as the junior engineer in the security and quality control section. The bribe-taking incident occurred on September 9 in Somwanshi's cabin at the corporation.
The viral video has sullied the KDMC's reputation, prompting immediate disciplinary action. Although the order did not disclose the bribe amount or other specifics, it underscored the severity of the offense by placing Somwanshi under immediate suspension.
