In a troubling incident, a police naik in Maharashtra's Palghar district is facing serious charges of corruption, as an FIR has been filed against him for allegedly accepting a Rs 10,000 bribe. The accusation was made by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), which stated the officer took the money to prevent the complainant's arrest.
The original case against the complainant was registered at the Boisar police station under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. According to the ACB's release, the officer initially demanded Rs 20,000 but settled for Rs 10,000 in partial payment. As the pressure for the remaining amount continued, the bribe-seeker agreed to accept an additional Rs 5,000.
On receiving the complaint, the ACB took swift action, lodging an FIR against the police naik under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The case highlights ongoing concerns about corruption within police departments and underscores the need for stringent oversight.
