In a significant development, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, on charges of corruption and financial misconduct. The arrest, which took place on Monday, also involved three other individuals connected to the case.
Union State Minister Sukanta Majumdar commented on the arrest through a video message on social media platform X, stating, "The arrest was bound to happen and it was a demand of the people of Bengal... I already had doubted if the CBI could arrest Dr. Sandip Ghosh in the matter of rape-murder due to the lack of evidence but in the case of corruption, Sandip Ghosh has been arrested, as I had predicted earlier." He also thanked the CBI for respecting the demands of the people of Bengal.
The West Bengal BJP President took the opportunity to criticize the TMC government, alleging attempts to destroy evidence. Alongside Ghosh, two vendors and an aide have also been arrested. Previously, the Calcutta High Court had ordered a probe into the corruption allegations, leading to the arrests. The investigation into the separate case of rape and murder of a female postgraduate trainee at the institution continues.
