Ukraine launched a major offensive in Russia's Kursk region, resulting in at least 31 civilian deaths and 256 injuries by Sept. 5, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The attack, which began on Aug. 6, represents the largest foreign assault on Russian territory since World War Two. Ukrainian forces penetrated the border with substantial support from drones and heavy weaponry, including Western-made arms.

As a consequence of the escalating violence, 131,000 civilians have been evacuated from the most perilous areas of the Kursk region.
