Israeli Airstrikes Escalate in Lebanon Amid Hezbollah Tensions
Israel launched extensive airstrikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, killing at least 100 people. The strikes come amid heavy cross-border exchanges of fire, with Hezbollah firing rockets into Israel in solidarity with Hamas. Israeli officials have urged citizens to evacuate Hezbollah-affected areas.
Israel initiated a broad wave of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon on Monday, resulting in at least 100 fatalities according to Lebanese officials. Amongst those dead are women, children, and medics, while over 300 have been injured. The escalation occurs amidst intense cross-border fire exchanges as Hezbollah supports Hamas in its conflict with Israel.
Speaking to the nation, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant emphasized that the airstrikes would continue until northern Israeli residents could safely return to their homes. These severe military operations targeted Iran-backed Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, the eastern Bekaa valley, and the northern region near Syria.
In response, Hezbollah launched rockets at Israeli military posts. The situation further deteriorated after an airstrike on Beirut's southern suburb killed senior Hezbollah commanders, including Ibrahim Aqil and Ahmed Wahbi. As the conflict intensifies, residents in Lebanon have been receiving evacuation calls, leading to fears of a full-blown war.
