In a landmark achievement, Afghanistan showcased exceptional form and secured their most significant series victory to date, defeating South Africa in the UAE on Sunday. This triumph has put them on the map as they continue their march to the Champions Trophy 2025.
Afghanistan won the first two matches convincingly, enjoying victories by six wickets and 177 runs, bowling out South Africa for totals of 106 and 134, respectively. Although South Africa claimed a consolation win in the third match, chasing down a target of 170, the series belonged to Afghanistan.
Remarkable performances from young batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz and bowler Rashid Khan were key to Afghanistan's success. Gurbaz, at 22, notched scores of 105 and 89, ending as the series' top scorer. Rashid Khan, despite missing the third match due to injury, led the bowling attack with seven wickets at an average of 7.00.
Currently ranked ninth in ICC Men's ODI Team Rankings, Afghanistan will face South Africa, Australia, and England in their Champions Trophy group, promising exciting cricket ahead. (ANI)
