Police in Mathura have booked a teenager and his family members for allegedly kidnapping a Hindu girl and attempting to convert her to Islam, authorities reported on Sunday.

Following a complaint from the girl's family, an FIR has been lodged. Efforts are currently underway to trace the 17-year-old victim and the accused, who is a Muslim and also a minor. Station House Officer (SHO) Ashok Kumar confirmed that both teenagers live in the same village under the Raya police station area, and study at the same school.

The complaint, filed on September 19, accuses the boy, Parveen Khan, of luring their daughter away on September 17. The family alleges that Khan intended to convert their daughter to Islam and marry her. As a result, a case under section 87 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered against Khan and his family members. Circle Officer Bhushan Verma stated that it remains unclear if this case qualifies as 'love-jihad' but confirmed that investigations continue as potential hideouts are being searched.
