In a significant development, police authorities on Friday confiscated two plots of land valued at nearly Rs 6 crore, acquired by slain gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. Officials revealed these plots were bought under the name of his acquaintance, Shyamji Saroj.
ACP Shwetabh Pandey of Civil Lines confirmed that the seized properties, measuring approximately 1,344 square meters, were purchased using the ill-gotten gains of Ahmed's criminal activities. The action was carried out under Section 14 (1) of the Gangster Act.
Ahmed, along with his brother Ashraf, was brutally murdered on April 15 last year. The duo was killed at point-blank range by assailants pretending to be journalists while under police escort to a medical checkup in Prayagraj.
