A Congolese military court issued death sentences to 37 individuals, including three Americans, after convicting them of involvement in a failed coup attempt.
The convicted individuals, including a Briton, Belgian, Canadian, and several Congolese nationals, can appeal the verdict. Charges against them include terrorism, murder, and criminal association.
The attempted coup in May led to six deaths and was led by Christian Malanga, who was killed while resisting arrest. His son, Marcel Malanga, along with Americans Tyler Thompson Jr. and Benjamin Reuben Zalman-Polun, were among those sentenced.
