On Thursday, police announced the arrest of two individuals for assaulting two army officers and raping their female companion near Mhow in Madhya Pradesh.
The news prompted immediate criticism from opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, who blamed BJP's governance for failing law and order.
The two apprehended men were presented in court and remanded to police custody for five days as the search for the remaining suspects continues. The horrifying incident occurred early Wednesday on the Mhow-Mandleshwar road, with six men attacking two young army officers and raping one of their two female friends. The victims were later taken to Mhow civil hospital, confirming the assault.
A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Arms Act. One of those arrested reportedly had a previous case of loot from 2016. Authorities are still pursuing the other perpetrators involved in the crime.
