In a decisive move, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced on Wednesday that the state government will demolish illegal structures built by occupying lakes in Hyderabad, regardless of the involvement of high-profile individuals.
Addressing the newly-recruited sub-inspectors of police, Reddy revealed the establishment of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRA). Tasked with reclaiming lakes from encroachers, HYDRA aims to mitigate flood risks exacerbated by unlawful constructions.
The government, Reddy asserted, is prepared to contest any legal battles initiated by encroachers. With plans for the Musi riverfront development, the government will also provide housing for approximately 12,000 displaced individuals and build new residential police schools in Hyderabad and Warangal.
