Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced on Saturday that breaches in Budameru have been successfully plugged, significantly reducing flood inflows to Vijayawada.
The statement came during a press conference at the NTR district collectorate, where Naidu highlighted the government's efforts in collecting rainfall data for assessment and clearing the flood-caused blockades. A heavy rainfall on Saturday afternoon had exacerbated the situation.
Naidu credited the efforts of Irrigation Minister N Rama Naidu and HRD Minister Nara Lokesh, who focused on these tasks for four consecutive days. The operation was a coordinated effort between the state machinery and army teams, employing thousands of sandbags and other materials to plug the breaches.
Criticizing the previous YSRCP government's negligence towards irrigation projects, Naidu alleged that the past mistakes were being corrected. He cited a breach in Budameru from last year that was closed on Saturday and visited multiple flood-affected areas in Vijayawada.
