In West Bengal, authorities have booked a local man for allegedly spreading false information on social media aimed at defaming Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud, the police confirmed on Wednesday.
According to a statement by the West Bengal Police on social media platform X, the fake news was circulated to discredit the Chief Justice and undermine the Supreme Court's dignity, with an intention to foster public distrust and disrupt societal peace.
The accused, Sujit Haldar of Fulbari, Krishnaganj police station, is currently under investigation. Police have also called on citizens to refrain from spreading false information.
