A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Delhi High Court, seeking the reservation of women in the upcoming Delhi University Students' Union elections.
The petition will be heard on Wednesday by a bench that includes Acting Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela.
Shabana Hussain, represented by her legal advocate Ashu Bidhuri, stated that the current student elections are dominated by money and muscle power, which severely limits women's participation. Hussain has therefore approached the high court to seek a mandate ensuring women's representation through reservation in the upcoming students' union elections, which are slated for September 27. The nomination process will commence on September 17.
