The Supreme Court has directed the CBI to submit a fresh report by September 17 on the probe into the rape and murder of a postgraduate medic at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

A bench led by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud reviewed a report filed by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the CBI. The bench noted the ongoing investigation and instructed the CBI to file a new status report.

Mehta revealed that forensic samples will be sent to AIIMS for further analysis.
