UK Sikh Group Warns Against 'Flawed' Islamophobia Definition in Law
The Network of Sikh Organisations (NSO) has cautioned the UK Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner against incorporating a 'flawed' definition of Islamophobia into law. They argue it would hinder factual historical discussions and may inadvertently persecute truth-tellers. The warning comes amid renewed government considerations on tackling Islamophobia.

The Network of Sikh Organisations (NSO) has issued a warning to Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner, cautioning against the government's potential adoption of a contentious definition of Islamophobia into law.
The NSO sent a letter to Rayner, who is also the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, following her comments in Parliament about the Labour government's approach to defining Islamophobia.
The NSO argues that adopting this definition would jeopardize free speech and hinder discussions on historical truths, citing concerns over the mislabeling of significant Sikh historical events and the persecution of religious minorities.
