American Woman Fatally Shot During West Bank Protest
An American woman, aged 26, was shot and killed in the West Bank during a pro-Palestinian demonstration against settlement expansion. Witnesses and media reported she was shot by Israeli troops. Dr. Ward Basalat confirmed her death, which occurred shortly after her arrival at the hospital.
An American woman was tragically shot and killed in the West Bank on Friday, according to two doctors who spoke with The Associated Press.
Dr. Ward Basalat affirmed that the 26-year-old victim sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head and succumbed to her injuries shortly after reaching the hospital.
Eyewitnesses and Palestinian media outlets allege that Israeli troops were responsible for the shooting during a pro-Palestinian demonstration against settlement expansion in the northern West Bank, specifically in the town of Beita.
The Israeli military has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident.
Dr. Fouad Naffa, the hospital's head, meanwhile confirmed that the deceased was an American citizen.
Protests in the region are common and have often turned violent. Just a month ago, another American, Amado Sison, was shot in the leg by Israeli forces as he fled tear gas and live ammunition.
Dr. Basalat, who works in the emergency room, was the attending physician and stated that the woman was treated for her gunshot wound immediately upon arrival but did not survive.
