Suspected Georgia high school shooter Colt Gray appeared Friday in state court facing murder charges linked to Wednesday's tragic rampage that left four people dead and nine others wounded.

The 14-year-old is being detained without bond at Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center. He was expected to appear via video before a Georgia Superior Court judge in Barrow County. Official records show Gray has been charged with four counts of felony murder and will be tried as an adult. Additionally, his father, Colin Gray, 54, faces four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of child cruelty, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Investigators from Georgia state and Barrow County report that Colt Gray used an 'AR platform style weapon,' or semiautomatic rifle, in the attack at Apalachee High School, killing two teachers and two 14-year-old students. He was quickly apprehended by two sheriff's deputies assigned to the school.

Authorities have not yet provided a motive for the mass shooting, the first on a U.S. campus since the end of summer. 'Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son, Colt Gray, to possess a gun. Due to the active investigation, we're unable to release further details,' the Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated.

The attack occurred in Winder, a city of 18,000 located about 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Atlanta, triggering renewed debate over gun control and spurring a wave of national grief. The victims included 14-year-old students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and teachers Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53.

Among the wounded, one teacher and eight students suffered injuries, with the adult and six students sustaining gunshot wounds, according to the bureau.
