In a series of fresh allegations, the Congress has accused SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch of receiving rental income from an entity linked to a company under investigation by the capital markets regulator, which she helms. This, they assert, poses a significant conflict of interest.

Addressing the media, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi, questioning the integrity and transparency of SEBI's operations. He pointed out that 10 crore Indians are invested in the market and deserve better governance.

Further emphasizing their point, Congress leaders highlighted past actions of former SEBI heads to avoid conflicts of interest, contrasting them with Buch's current financial ties. They demanded an independent inquiry into the matter, accenting concerns among foreign investors about India's market integrity.
