The COP29 Presidency, in a significant stride towards enhanced global climate transparency, is set to unveil the Baku Global Climate Transparency Platform (BTP) during a High-Level Dialogue (HLD) in September. This dialogue aims to maintain the momentum for increased transparency actions leading up to COP29, focusing on bolstering confidence among parties and raising political awareness about the importance of universal participation in the Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF).

The BTP's primary goal is to support parties in the preparation and finalization of their Biennial Transparency Reports (BTRs) and to facilitate the implementation of the ETF beyond 2024. Specifically, it aims to assist developing country parties through capacity-building efforts. This initiative will complement current transparency platforms and initiatives, such as the #Together4Transparency initiative, thereby enriching the existing transparency ecosystem.

'Our objective is to unite stakeholders committed to assisting developing country parties in the preparation and submission of BTRs, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange across all parties on the ETF spectrum, and better mobilizing capacity-building resources where necessary,' stated Mukhtar Babayev, COP29 President-Designate and Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan. He emphasized the importance of inclusive participation from civil society, Indigenous Peoples, women, youth, and other key stakeholders to strengthen trust and accountability, thereby achieving collective climate goals.
