A 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly opening fire at two individuals at Badlapur station in Maharashtra’s Thane district, injuring one person, authorities said Friday.

The incident, rooted in business rivalry, unfolded at platform number 1 around 6 pm Thursday, amid a crowded suburban station on the Central Railway route.

Senior Inspector Pandhari Kande of the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP) confirmed an FIR against Vikas Nana Pagare for attempted murder under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act. Officials are probing whether more individuals were involved. The event was captured on cameras and quickly went viral on social media.

Pagare reportedly ran towards the tracks attempting to flee but was apprehended by police with the help of commuters.

The injured victim, Shankar Sansare, was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The second target escaped unscathed and remains unidentified. Authorities linked the shooting to professional rivalry in the TV cable business. Prelude to the shooting, a fight broke out outside the station before Pagare followed Sansare inside and fired his weapon.

Forensic analysis of the seized revolver and pellets is underway. Last month, Badlapur was in the spotlight following another high-profile case involving the alleged sexual assault of two kindergarten girls, which led to massive protests.
