In a significant move, senior advocate Adish C Aggarwala has voiced his opposition against SCBA president Kapil Sibal concerning a contentious resolution on the Kolkata rape and murder case. Aggarwala has formally requested the Supreme Court to clarify the eligibility criteria for signing resolutions following the preparation of a new voter list for the bar association this year.

Aggarwala, a former SCBA president, announced that he and several SCBA members are planning to move a no-confidence motion against Sibal. Their primary concern hinges on which voter list will be deemed valid for these decisions.

The controversy erupted following the SCBA resolution, issued by Sibal on August 21, addressing the gruesome incident at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. The resolution praised the Supreme Court's intervention but was met with objections from rival bar leaders who accused Sibal of issuing it unilaterally without a meeting of the executive committee.
