The Muslim side has escalated its legal battle to the Supreme Court, seeking to overturn the Allahabad High Court's ruling on the Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah dispute in Mathura. The high court had rejected pleas challenging the maintainability of 18 related cases.
Filed by the mosque management committee through advocate RHA Sikander, the plea questions the August 1 ruling that mandated a determination of the 'religious character' of the Shahi Idgah.
The high court's decision came after it dismissed arguments that suits by Hindu litigants violated the Places of Worship (Special Provisions) Act, thereby declaring the cases maintainable. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the plea next week.
