Former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, has filed a petition with the Supreme Court contesting his recent arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on allegations of corruption and financial misconduct. The Supreme Court has scheduled his plea for a hearing on September 6, presided over by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI apprehended Dr. Ghosh on September 2, following an investigation into alleged corruption and financial irregularities at the medical institution. This probe was initiated based on an order from a single bench of the Calcutta High Court, which directed the CBI to investigate the matter thoroughly.

Dr. Ghosh was subsequently placed in 8-day police custody on Tuesday. On August 24, as per the Calcutta High Court's directive, the CBI registered an official FIR against him. In light of the ongoing investigation, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kolkata has also suspended Dr. Ghosh's membership.

In a related development on August 26, the CBI conducted a second round of polygraph tests on Dr. Ghosh, which are part of their broader investigation into the rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Medical College. The Calcutta High Court has given the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on this investigation, due on September 17.

The deceased trainee doctor was discovered dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College on August 9, prompting a multifaceted investigation. The situation continues to unfold, with both legal and investigative developments expected in the coming weeks.
