The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for this week's suicide bombing at a prosecutor's office in Kabul, killing at least six people and injuring 13.
The assailant detonated his explosive-laden vest as investigators and employees were leaving work, aiming to avenge detainees in Taliban-run prisons, according to an IS statement via its news outlet Amaq.
While IS claimed the blast killed 45 people, Taliban officials reported six deaths. Following the explosion, Taliban security forces cordoned off the area, restricting access to journalists and civilians. Extremist attacks have surged following the Taliban's takeover in 2021, often targeting Taliban patrols and the Shiite minority.
