Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul, has been charged with acting as an undisclosed agent of the Chinese government, federal prosecutors in Brooklyn announced.
While working in state government, Sun allegedly blocked representatives of the Taiwanese government from meeting with officials and sought to arrange a visit to China for a high-level New York state official. Her husband, Chris Hu, also faces criminal charges for related activities.
In exchange, Chinese government representatives facilitated millions of dollars in transactions for Hu. Other gifts included Nanjing-style salted ducks from a Chinese official's chef. Lawyers for Sun and Hu did not respond to requests for comment.
