13-Year-Old Allegedly Raped by Seven in Chhattisgarh

A 13-year-old girl was allegedly raped by seven individuals, including six minors, in Chhattisgarh's Jashpur district, authorities reported on Tuesday.

Police have detained all the seven suspects. Aside from a 19-year-old, the others are between 15 and 17 years old, and one was reportedly known to the victim.

The incident occurred on Sunday night in the Pathalgaon police station area when the young girl, a resident of a nearby village in Surguja district, was returning home from a weekly market visit with friends.

Surguja Superintendent of Police Yogesh Patel disclosed that initial information indicates the victim was stopped by the accused, one of whom she recognized. They coerced her into accompanying them and then raped her. She managed to reach home late at night and filed a complaint at Sitapur police station the next day.

Given that the incident happened in Pathalgaon, Jashpur district, Sitapur police registered a zero FIR, allowing complaints to be lodged irrespective of the crime location. The case is set to be transferred to Jashpur police for further investigation, Patel confirmed.
