The Delhi High Court has reserved its order on a plea by former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda, seeking a stay on his conviction in a coal scam case to contest the 2024 state assembly polls. The CBI opposed the plea, citing the maintainability of a similar application dismissed in 2020.

The Delhi High Court reserved its decision on Tuesday concerning former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda's plea to stay his conviction in a coal scam case. The verdict is crucial for Koda's political ambitions as the 2024 state assembly elections approach.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna presided over the case, noting that both Koda and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had submitted their written arguments. The CBI, which investigated the coal scam, opposed Koda's application on the grounds of maintainability.

Koda is seeking the suspension of his 2017 conviction to run in the upcoming elections. His legal team faced stiff resistance from the CBI, represented by Senior advocate R S Cheema and lawyer Tarannum Cheema, who asserted the non-maintainability of Koda's renewed plea, pointing out that an identical request was dismissed in May 2020.
