In a significant development in Ahmedabad, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court has handed down five-year imprisonment sentences to five individuals involved in a fraudulent insurance claim scheme.

According to a CBI press release, the individuals — Dinesh Parshotamdas Patel, Sanjay R Chitre, Manan D Patel, Shishupal Rajput, and Amar Singh Bialbhai — were convicted of conspiring with public servants from the New India Assurance Company Limited (NIACL) to sanction insurance claims based on forged documents.

The fraudulent actions resulted in a loss of nearly Rs. 4.89 lakh to the insurance company during the period between 1999 and 2000.

The investigation revealed that Manan and Dinesh Patel insured their chemical product and submitted fake documents to claim insurance, while SR Chitre facilitated the approval based on fabricated evidence.

Amar Singh Bialbhai, in a public officer capacity, filed a fake FIR, and Shishupal, a recovery agent, managed the financial transactions to appear legitimate.

The court convicted the individuals following an extensive trial involving 25 prosecution witnesses and 228 exhibits supporting the charges.
