In a significant anticorruption move, the central government has rescinded the Union Home Minister's Medal for Excellence in Investigation, previously awarded to Rahul Raj. The former CBI inspector faces allegations of accepting bribes to manipulate nursing college inspection reports in Madhya Pradesh.
Raj's arrest in May 2024, by the CBI's Internal Vigilance Unit, stems from a purported bribe of Rs 10 lakh solicited from Anil Bhaskaran, chairman of Malay College of Nursing. This unethical exchange allegedly aimed at providing favorable inspection outcomes for affiliated colleges.
The Home Ministry confirmed the medal's forfeiture under Rule 9 due to the gravity of the misconduct, underscoring the heightened demand for integrity in law enforcement and rigorous agency governance.
