Physicist Alexander Shiplyuk Sentenced to 15 Years for Treason in Hypersonic Missile Case

Russian physicist Alexander Shiplyuk has been sentenced to 15 years on treason charges, the latest in a series of cases involving scientists working on hypersonic missile technology in Russia.

Shiplyuk, director of the Khristianovich Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics in Siberia, was arrested in August 2022. His colleagues Anatoly Maslov and Valery Zvegintsev were also detained on similar charges, with Maslov receiving a 14-year sentence.

Shiplyuk's trial was conducted behind closed doors, following standard procedures in Russian treason cases. The Kremlin has described the accusations as 'very serious,' stating that the matter is under the jurisdiction of the security services.
